Frequently Asked Questions
Q: When will my NVTA membership benefits end?
A: Benefits for NVTA members will end effective December 31, 2024, subject to certain program transitions and a prorated dues refund explained below.
Q: Why is United Road ending NVTA?
A: United Road made the decision to end the National Transporters Vehicle Association (NVTA). While NVTA will no longer continue, we remain committed to offering our independent contractors the same valuable cost-saving programs for fuel, insurance, maintenance, and more.
For Non-Independent Contractors, these programs will be discontinued, except for insurance, which will now be managed directly through Hylant. However, we are open to contracting with any third-party businesses that choose to lease on with United Road as an Independent Contractor, where allowed by law. Our Independent Contractors have access to several cost-saving programs and also benefit from opportunities to haul freight from our premium customers. Please talk to a United Road recruiter to explore the many advantages of becoming a United Road Independent Contractor.
By discontinuing current NVTA membership benefits, United Road can focus on offering key carriers valuable programs as they’re running successful businesses. We appreciate the efforts of all our valued carriers and look forward to continuing to build our business relationship.
Q: What happens to existing members of NVTA?
A: United Road will refund the prorated portion of NVTA dues plus 25% of the prorated amount as additional consideration. Please refer to the table below for examples of the refund calculation based on NVTA benefits no longer being available effective January 1, 2025.
Q: Will United Road continue to offer the savings programs offered by NVTA?
A: Independent Contractors will continue to receive equivalent savings programs. Non-Independent Contractor NVTA subscribers will no longer receive the savings programs offered through NVTA. Additional details:
- Business Insurance. A new program provided through Hylant is available to all current and former NVTA members.
- Fuel Discounts. WEX facilitated the fuel discounts made available through NVTA. Independent Contractors will continue to receive fuel discounts pursuant to their Independent Contractor Service Agreement (ICSA). Non-Independent Contractors may work with WEX to transition into WEX’s business to business program.
- Health Insurance. Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. (Gallagher) provided the health insurance and other general discounts made available through NVTA. Gallagher is working to identify an organization that you may be allowed to receive voluntary health and other benefits without interruption with open enrollment in early January.
- General Discounts. Gallagher is working to identify programs you may be allowed to use to obtain discounts on other items.
- Roadside Support. Existing members will continue to receive roadside assistance through December 31, 2024, or the end of their NVTA membership, whichever is earlier.
Q: If I want to continue all the benefits, how do I become an Independent Contractor?
A: Non-Independent Contractors are encouraged to speak to a United Road recruiter to learn about the many advantages of becoming a United Road Independent Contractor. Visit www.drive4unitedroad.com/IC for more details.
